PlantBio will be a catalyst for the creation of a strong and sustainable plant biotechnology sector, transforming South Africa into a world leader in plant biotechnology.

PlantBio's main objective is to:

develop biotech initiatives with commercial impact;


build capacity in SA to create human skills required to develop competitive biotech projects.



PlantBio's role will be to foster biotechnology technical or service platforms in South Africa.
Project addressing the issue of food security will be given special consideration.
Products which can result in licenses being negotiated with large companies.
Projects which result in viable, self-sufficient start-up companies to sell novel products or services.


Projects involving SADC Countries will also be considered.
