Project Review Process

Pre-proposal phase
This standard document gives an overview of the proposal concept that is reviewed internally at PlantBio and by the Project Investment Committee (PIC). An interactive process with the Entrepreneur(s) or Principal Investigator(s) is conducted to refine the proposal. Once the pre-proposal concept is fully defined and the PIC recommends it approval, the PIC) has to approve the next phase which consists of the compilation of a Business Plan or a Full R&D proposal (depending on the type of project).

Business Plan/ Full R&D Proposal Phase
Once PlantBio receives the Business Plan or Full R&D Proposal, the PIC conducts an extensive review. The PlantBio Team begins a comprehensive Due Diligence process on the Project and prepares an Investment Proposal.

Final Negotiation Phase
PlantBio finalizes the Investment Proposal and the remaining Due Diligence items and negotiates with the Entrepreneurs or Principal Investigators the terms of the investment into the project. The Investment Proposal with the Terms of Investment together with the Business Plan or Full R&D Proposal is submitted to the BoT for approval.

Legal Documentation Phase
Once the BoT has approved the Investment Proposal and the Business Plan or Full R&D Proposal, a legal firm is contracted by both parties to draw up the relevant Agreements and Contracts necessary for the Project. Also, the Entrepreneur or the Principal Investigator is required to disclose all funding and contracts related to the project and project IP. These are presented to the BoT who sign the Agreements and Contracts if all conditions are met. Funds can then be transferred.

Monitoring Phase
After the transfer of funds has been effected, the project goes into a monitoring and evaluation phase until its conclusion. Milestones used to define the project performance and scientific, IP and/or financial deliverables are carefully monitored and evaluated according to the Terms of Investment and Legal Documentation.
